The Astonishing Sale of a Disney Princess

I have a love/hate relationship with Disney items.  I don't immediately purchase them.  I guess in the back of my mind, I'm thinking....who really want's this stuff?  Not that I find a lot of Disney items.  If I do, it is typically clothing; and I'm just not convinced that Disney clothing is a hot buy.  Although I have heard Disney being a great seller, I'm always a little bit cautious.

However, when my daughter found a Disney Traditions Collection Princess at the thrift store - that was preowned, but still in the box - I had to have it. The princess that I purchased was Belle, from Beauty and the Beast. There was also a musical base that went with it that was also at the thrift store.  I really lucked out to get both pieces for about six dollars. At the time, I wasn't familiar with these Disney Princesses so I had to do my research. This princess was a part of Disney Traditions, a special collection by artist Jim Shore.  According to his website, Jim Shore grew up in rural South Carolina.  He was the son of artistic parents who instilled in him a love of the traditional imagery of American folk art.  He honed his skill as a sculptor and painter which eventually led to a partnership with Disney to create Disney Traditions.  Isn't she beautifully designed?

Prices were all over the place on Ebay, but I was pleased as punch to sell her for $89.99.  Honestly, I was a bit shocked, too.   What are your thoughts about Disney items?

Game Parts for Sale

Sometimes the very thing that you are convinced will sell seems to just hand around.  In spite of your best efforts and pricing experiments, the item just won't move.  That was the case with this game, Weapons and Warriors castle combat set.

When I purchased it a local thrift store, I was excited.  It was a niche item that had promising sales numbers.  Here is the problem.  It had a lot of parts.  I mean a WHOLE lot of parts. And I just wasn't sure if it was complete.  Since I couldn't sell the game as complete, I started by posting it as 80% complete.  I don't know if that helped or hurt, but nobody wanted to take the risk.  That listing wasn't going anywhere.  It was getting decent views, but something just wasn't clicking

I had the game for months, and I was getting disappointed.  I decided to switch things up a bit.  I split the game up into parts and tried to sell it that way.  This game had a lot of different pieces and I separated them into lots. That's when I got lucky.  The parts started selling.  I even sold the directions for $10.00.  Here is a picture.

It all SOLD!  Even the box, which is pictured above. The box sold for 26.99. I made way more money selling the parts that trying to sell the complete game. Total sales from parts was approximately $90.00 WINNING!

What success have you had selling parts?

Vintage Books - BOLOS

So what are your thoughts about vintage books?  I am a book lover.  If I am thrifting, I always check the shelves for some vintage books.  Here are some that I have sold recently.

1923 Freemason Book                                $52.99
1925 Raggedy Ann Wishing Pebble           $12.99
1939 Jolly Jump Ups New House               $24.99
1943 The Little Prince                                 $31.99
1973 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory   $52.99

I'm sure that I didn't pay more than 50 cents for any of these books.  If they are heavy, you can ship them using media mail for a decreased cost.  Most of them don't sell quickly, though.  Although I have had some that sold within 2 weeks, others might sit on the shelves for a couple of months.  You've got to have patience.  Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of patience when it comes to selling.  I don't have a store, so I try to be selective and use my listings on things that I believe will sell.  Sometimes it works out.  Sometimes it doesn't. Still, there can be some good money to be made with old books.

What vintage books have you sold?
